Functional ferry building with plenty of parking, toilets, and helpful staff. The place to go to get the ferry to Rousay. Just be aware that you have to reverse (!) onto the small ferry.

Launch place for Rousay trips and also seeing the growing number of fishing boats that are homes here. Mainly crab/lobster boats. Also a reasonable spot for rod / spinner/ feather fishing from.

Small office and toilets, all you need for a small ferry. As stated, cars reverse onto the ferry and drive off at the other side. The ferry is small so booking in advance is advised both ways if you want to come back the same day. Just don’t miss the ferry. There is parking beside the slipway for cars, but can be busy.

You would hope travelling by ferry on holiday would be slightly pleasant experience, sadly not today. I arrived at 2pm to get my ticket, Kirsty arrived 10 mins late in a stress I guess, shouting “Mask!” At me as I entered, I showed my exemption badge, I then said “hello how you doing.” She managed a reluctant “ok.” Then I asked her a few questions, she barked at me “one thing at a time!” Then when I paid I put my hands on the counter, she said “don’t lean on the counter!!!!!” I said “I’m only putting my heads on it! I don’t think the white will damage it” she said “ she said it’s not the weight, it’s you’re too close to me!” I understand people are still worried about covid but I think people also use it to be rude. Not a pleasant experience. 😕
