Enjoyed a pleasant stroll around the harbour. There was nothing much going on when I was here because it was Sunday, but I was able to go through the gate on to the quay and see the fishing trawlers at their moorings. Part of the harbour is a marina for pleasure craft. I liked the statues of people and animals dotted around the quayside and the old town. There are public toilets nearby in Perceval Square (you pay 30p to go in). Plenty of free parking around the harbour and ferry terminal. The waterfront and surrounding pedestrianised streets are lined with colourful historic buildings, cafes, and some nice independent shops selling Scottish tweeds, knitwear, jewellery and crafts.

Nice place although do be prepared for everything to be closed on a Sunday. Even the service station was shut! Still we had a nice walk around but was a shame we couldn’t get a nice cuppa anywhere. We had one from the vending machine in the ferry terminal which was terrible so don’t bother. Also the public toilets and also the ones in the bus station were either closed or out of order but the terminal ones were open(and clean). There’s a nice memorial which is in the bay in the shape of the ship that went down with the loss of many lives which I think was really cool, esp as it’s all lit up at night. Didn’t get chance to visit the castle but still is a lovely place, just a shame we didn’t get chance to stay longer.

Lovely little place to visit, stop on a cruise ship, was very windy, so only had a short visit, some nice coffee shops.

The most kind and helpful people! I can not thank them enough, I lost my phone in the rocks at the bay and they helped me get it back with a big smile!

Horrible unfriendly people in the harbour office, especially the chief. They are only interested in money. Dirty toilets, bad showers and extremely expensive. It's a shame they milk out their geographical position without offering any service in return. Will never go there again.

We visited in September 2023 and unfortunately Stornaway looked somewhat unloved. Perhaps it was because the sunshine was missing. However, the harbour seals made our day...

We entered the port for a few hours in an emergency and they charged us 50 pounds for 24 hours. Left a very nasty unwelcoming feeling, and a stain on the Scottish hospitality.

Harbour Open Day well attended by families. Live music to entertain everyone. Stalls to browse. Classic car club had some interesting cars from yesteryear!
