Young inexperienced border staff clearly just there for a wage and no care for travellers. You pay for what you get ! After being told there was no toilets for travellers by one employee and being held in a queue of traffic for no apparent reason well not that we was told anyway ,my partner was in terrible discomfort and required the loo she was told to go behind a parked vehicle to the side of the queue of traffic in front of everyone! To next asking a female member of staff for a tad more sympathy who looked at my other half as if she was mad whilst pulling faces at her . My partner was clearly in distress and in a lot a pain . I can only hope that one day someone treats them as poorly.

I’ll say this as a foot passenger that was doing the Dover to Calais crossing with PO Ferries. Firstly, PO Ferries are the only ones doing foot passengers so you don’t have any choice of ferry company.

Secondly, the 90 minute arrival time at Eastern Docks isn’t as strict as the website suggests. You can arrive 20 minutes before the shuttle bus leaves and be fine.

Thirdly, what a faff it all is being a foot passenger. Get on the bus, drive, get off the bus, go through passport control. Then get on the bus, drive, get off again, this time with your luggage for it to be scanned with your belt, phone etc like it would be at an airport. Then get on the bus and then drive and get on the ferry.

Another thing I would add. It’s not clearly marked out where you need to walk to when you first arrive. That could be much better signposted. Also, the walk from either Dover Priory train station or Pencester Bus Station isn’t that far. It’s certainly walkable, but this depends on your fitness levels and how much luggage you have.

We went into the Club Lounge for the crossing. It’s around £30. It is more comfortable and there is plenty to eat and drink including a hot English breakfast which is all self service. You’ll not starve in there, though it does get very busy. One advantage of being a foot passenger is that you can get into the Club Lounge earlier than the car passengers. At least that was the case when we were crossing. Not sure I’d do the foot passenger thing again however.

It is port which connects UK and Europe. The English Channel separates apart the UK and Europe. You will reach France once cross English Channel by Ferry. It is almost 2 hours drive by Ferry. Ferries are comfortable with all the amenities in. From Hotel, toilets to good resting zone. You may enjoy the beautiful journey by looking at the English Channel. You can get your vehicle parked in the Ferry.

Driving into the port everything is well signposted. Border control can be a bit on the slow side. The staff on the ticket booths are usually friendly and helpful.
This is my port of choice when travelling abroad.

Terrible organisation. Here at 21:00 and only just reached the ferry lane at 22:30. How many lanes of traffic into two lanes to check in. Then tiny unlit signs to sort traffic into the correct lanes for each operator. Nightmare and not a pleasant start to the holiday.

They keep truck drivers being awake for 30h waiting in line. Passenger cars are being let through and lorries have to wait for hours and hours. May 25th 2024 my driver drove 1 mile between 5pm and 4am the next day, where he started off in line at 2am. ONE FREAKING MILE. They deserve their sleep and rest while they’re AT WORK. This is completely unacceptable and against any human rights and dignity. This should be considered and something should be done about it. Segregation of passenger cars and lorries is unacceptable and in a long run this will lead to you not receiving any cargo from EU countries. DO BETTER!!!!!

The system is fundamentally flawed during busy times it doesn't change much.
There was a free for all, cars like 30 behind us going through first, hardly surprising the drivers were getting angry.
Same reasons given "the ques are all moved in order" which absolutely was NOT the case.
No organisation as staff were not at the front of the ques organising fair order.
We missed our ferry. (Having arrived 2.5 hrs before our ferry time)
Customs were NOT the issue they were fast as they could be, usual checks no long delay.
I understand its busy, I know about staffing struggles, however the poor organisation happens every year.
