Really enjoyable walk soured by this scammy car park. After reading reviews saying there were issues with the card reader I made sure to have coins on me. Wanted to pay £5 for 4 hours… put in my money to not much response, then the machine only spat £3 back out. Obviously fuming I went to another machine paying £5 again, as the photo shows ticket only having 3 hours not 4 which slightly put the pressure on us during our walk being mindful of that.

The walk was a great day out but sure as hell won’t be racing back to endure the p***take of a carpark.

Lovely walks through the forest, great place to bring your 4 legged friend, cafe on site but only had outside seating, parking cost us £5 for 3 hrs, parking is free if you have National trust membership, just scan the QR code on your membership card to get a ticket to display inside your car windscreen.

Can't pay by card. Paying online costs 40% more.
There are also no garbage bins anywhere.

Lovely place otherwise but operated by incompetent fools

As a young lad in the early 70s , our teacher read us a book. It's title is " The weirdstone of Brisingamen" written by Alan Garner. The idea of the book actually comes from the authors childhood, spent playing in the caves and woods. It was always on my bucket list to come here and physical walk, all the areas that are mentioned in the book. I wasn't disappointed but it wasn't easy for us to find . You also have to really go off the track to find all the highlighted area's. There's pay and display parking and a cafe and public toilets. Definitely well worth a visit.

Busy car park on sunny days reflective of the good location. Free toilets. Parking also free of you scan your national trust card. Good walking routes through mainly forested areas. Good view towards Manchester from a 5 to 10 minute walk (North West corner of the yellow route).

Nice place for short walk. Most of the routes only 2 miles long, good for spending 2 to 3 hours here on a sunny day.
