Do not visit with a yacht after October!

+ve:
Fantastic location, very helpful locals, stunning town with an awesome leisure centre, mix of bars and eateries to suit all. Port authority kept parcels safe for my collection and gave good approach guidance.

-ve:
Dangerously poor provision for yachts after October. Mine was damaged in the totally unsuitable berth, with huge truck tyres they threw over the side after removing the pontoons. They do not go all the way down and trap your vessel beneath, damaging your stanchions. They will rip off your fenders and wreck your hull with a SE swell from Hell. The port also left the unprotected steel girders ready to trash your hull in a swell. Plus, there was a huge diesel leak while I was there, which wrecked all of my mooring lines. No help given by port authority. But, locals rallied and assisted greatly!

Showers a walk away and cold.

No security.

Full summer prices despite lack of true yacht facilities.

At the crossroads of the North Sea and North-east Atlantic, Lerwick Harbor is Britain’s 'Top' Port – the most northerly commercial harbor in the country.
With two entrances, the sheltered, deep-water port is open to shipping in all weathers and operates around the clock, handling over 5,000 vessels.

Getting off the ferry and getting back on is at the same bit of port just a slightly different area to queue for return near the the authority building. The entrance is a bit like going into a carwash, going through a roofed area housing the ticket booth. I had driven back round to check I had read the sign correctly. 😂

Visit with my cabin cruiser during the summer, excellent facilities, helpful & friendly staff and access direct into the heart of the town - cafe’s, pubs, restaurants & fast food takeaways all within a stones throw.
