Sailed on M.V Hjaltland Aberdeen-Lerwick return. Was between Christmas and New Year so quite quiet. We booked last minute as was keeping an eye on the weather. Very lucky with the weather, a pretty smooth ride on both sailings. Everything was easy - booking, check-in and loading car, cabin cosy and very comfortable. Some nice local Orkney draft beers in the mid bar. Good selection of hot food at dinner. Staff all very friendly.

The staff are very welcoming and will really go the extra mile to help and accommodate requests and requirements. Boarding and disembarking are very efficient, and the ships are well equipped and comfortable. If only travel was always such a pleasure! Other companies could certainly learn a lesson or two from Northlink! Thank you for always providing such a straightforward and pleasurable experience.

Our passage was good. The MV Hjatland is a great ship. Weather was not great and we had some seas. But the ship always felt strong and worthy. The crew are helpful and obviously keep their ship well. Terminals on both ends are efficient. Belowdecks is run efficiently and with pleasant authority which is what I want in a ship I’m going to live on for half a day.

Friendly staff and an easily navigated terminal.
Absolutely the foremost place to catch a ferry from Shetland to the Mainland of Scotland.

Shetlands are a great place to spot seals and for all otter lovers out there, probably one of the highest chances to see this nice creatures in their natural habitat.
