It's not often you come across a business who's trying to deliver as much bang for their customer's bucks as Disking.

Been in a couple of times, the staff are really knowledgeable and helpful, and the business is so well run.

Served by both Jack and Will who're both certified legends!

Had a technical issue that was sorted same-day, brilliant guy, didn't have a chance to ask for his name but I'd trust him with anything. Laptop broke a few days before project submission, all sorted within a few hours. would strongly recommend to anyone, especially students in the area.

Edit : They downgraded my laptop to windows 10 and said to return it once project submission is over to get it returned to windows 11. When I brought it back, they said it would cost me to get it upgraded which was not part of the deal. Turns out my partner got it upgraded from home in 5 minutes, for free.

I needed a laptop charger urgently for work laptop as had not got mine. I called up and they said they would have it, so drove to get it and then told they don't have it. So wasted part of my working day going there., so very frustrated!

Then I asked if they had an adapter for a different laptop charger and told it doesn't exist, but it does exist on google. I think this should be standard knowledge for this type of shop.

Recommend Argos across the road instead who were much more helpful and had all the knowledge required.

TLDR - I strongly advise against using Disking. They were very slow, disorganised & I ended up with more problems than I started with. Prior to using them, I had a fault which I would have been able to resolve via manufacturer RMA. Afterwards, I had a physically damaged motherboard (would not qualify for RMA) and according to them, a shorted CPU. The replacement cost? Nearly £1,000 in parts.

First of all, let me preface this by stating that whilst I don't claim to be an expert, I'm certainly far above average when it comes to PC related knowledge & have built many PCs myself. I also repair digital cameras & lenses. This involves working with delicate circuitry with microscopic components, so I am extremely careful when it comes to handling electronics.

My PC recently stopped working after putting it to sleep. There are diagnostic LEDs on my motherboard, and the illuminated LED indicated an issue with the RAM. I tried the usual steps, such as using a single RAM stick, switching RAM sticks, trying different slots, reseating everything, connecting a different power supply etc. None of this helped, so my suspicion at this point was a fault on the motherboard. However I needed confirmation prior to starting the RMA process.

I took my PC in to Disking at midday on Monday 13th Jan. I explained the issue, the debug steps I'd taken & told them I wanted their help to diagnose the issue so that I can RMA the faulty component (the parts were within their warranty period). I asked for expedited service, which cost £130. They said they'd be in touch within 48 hrs.

The first call I received from them was on Friday 17th Jan, 96 hrs later.

They explained that the CPU-related debug LED was illuminated. This confused me as when it left my care, it was the LED indicating a RAM issue. He then explained that the CPU pins were bent & they bent it back. This immediately raised red flags as:

1. The PC had been working fine for nearly 1.5 years. A bent pin would have lead to an immediate issue

2. Bending a pin back is potentially a destructive process, as the pin could break due to metal fatigue. I would have expected them to get my approval first, especially considering the motherboard is a high end one around £450.

I challenged the above stating it doesn't make sense how it could have worked for so long with a bent pin & they said it could be due to thermal expansion. Again, this makes absolutely no sense. At this point however, it was a he said she said situation, so I asked what the next steps were.

They explained that they had a test motherboard on the way, and would transfer over the CPU & RAM to determine if these were functional. They said that I would get a call the following day, i.e. Saturday 18th Jan.

Saturday came & went without any contact. The next call I received was on Wednesday 22nd Jan. They informed me the CPU & motherboard was faulty and it would cost £1,000 to replace. At this point I requested that they just return the PC.

After getting the PC back, I tested it once again & lo and behold, the RAM LED was illuminated, not the CPU LED like they stated. I also used my microscope to inspect the CPU socket pins, and sure enough, I can see signs of damage that I'm certain weren't there beforehand.

At this point I realised they'd never actually mentioned if the RAM was working or not, so I called them to ask. The response I got was that they couldn't test it as the motherboard was broken. I had to remind them they brought in a test motherboard to test the CPU & RAM. He went to check with his colleague, who confirmed it was working, but at this point I had lost all confidence in them & didn't know what to believe.

Prior to using Disking, it was a case of identifying the faulty component & starting an RMA with the manufacturer. I'm now left with a motherboard (£450) with a confirmed bent pin that will mean it's not eligible for RMA, possibly a shorted CPU (£600), and RAM (£260) that I have no idea if it's functional or not.

Needless to say, I will NOT be using Disking again & strongly advise other to do the same.
