This station is easily identifiable by a classic Metro sign and the platform is well-sized, making for a solid experience both arriving and departing via train! Me and my friends were satisfied with the fast connections both to and from Leeds on our journey, which we had full awareness of when departing due to the electronic board. Directions to exit the station are clear for any way and it is highly comfortable in the large waiting room, where one can find their way to from outside by the large text! A member of staff was kind enough to hand me a napkin when I accidentally put my hand in a mess there and the station area had been kept clean; the staff are building a second platform that I commend the creation of.

Very good station now that it has it platform 2 open and now that transpennine stops here it got a lot better too (sorry if I spelled the train company wrong) anyway you can get a lot of nice trains here and sometimes freight and steam engines if your lucky 😎

The new station was great with toilet facilities for everyone. Then the toilet facilities for able bodied people were closed and replaced by a cafe, no doubt to generate commercial rent revenue. Backward step. Added 29th July 2022 At least with the old station the shelters were there 24 hours a day. More and more the building is locked and people have to wait outside in all weathers including the rain with no shelter at all. Added 02 August 2022 the information screen doesn't give the correct information, see photo below. The train that arrived while the screen showed Leeds was the Sheffield train.

Genuinely impressive to see how far this station has come in the last few years. Both platforms now clean, modern and fully operational with frequent services. The only thing now that lets the place down is Northern Rail!

The station was going through an upgrade when I last used it and they've done a great job of it, I've needed to use the station many times throughout the past year and the upgraded facilities will be appreciated in the new year. 👍
