Canary Wharf: A Premier Destination in London

Canary Wharf, E14 8RR, United Kingdom

For those seeking a blend of modernity and historical charm, Canary Wharf stands out as a premier destination in London. Located at Canary Wharf, E14 8RR, United Kingdom, this area has transformed dramatically over the years, becoming a bustling hub of business and leisure. The most notable feature for visitors is undoubtedly the Ferry Terminal, which serves as a vital link between the North and South banks of the Thames, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly mode of transport compared to taxis, though it's slightly pricier than the Underground. This terminal is a must-visit for anyone exploring London's diverse transportation options.

Key Features and Services

Canary Wharf is not just a transit point; it's a comprehensive destination boasting various amenities. The ferry terminal itself offers onsite services, ensuring visitors' needs are met from start to finish. For those requiring additional assistance, there's a wheelchair accessible entrance and restroom, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity. The restroom facilities are well-maintained and cater to all visitors' requirements.

The area is known for its 24-hour transit availability, making it a convenient choice for late-night travelers or those who prefer to navigate London beyond regular hours. This feature undoubtedly adds to the allure of Canary Wharf as a versatile destination.

Dining and Entertainment

Food enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in Canary Wharf, with a wide range of dining options available, from street food outlets to upscale restaurants. This diversity ensures that visitors can find something to suit every palate, whether they're in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely meal.

Visitor Opinions and Experiences

Based on the 158 reviews on Google My Business, the average opinion of Canary Wharf is a highly positive 4.5/5. Visitors often praise the area's green spaces and the lovely walks along the wharf, adding a tranquil contrast to the bustling city life. Many travelers appreciate the balance of convenience and comfort, highlighting the ferry service's reliability and safety.

However, some feedback suggests that while the clipper (ferry) has a bar, there's room for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. The staff, while courteous, didn't leave a lasting impression of friendliness. Despite these minor shortcomings, the regular and safe service remains a significant highlight for many.

Never visited before, hadn't realized that it was quite so green, loved the walks along side the wharf. Lots of places to eat, from street food outlets to posh restaurants.

Great mode of transport between the North and South side of the river when needed. Cheaper than a taxi, though more expensive than a tube ride. You can pay using your oyster card.
The clipper (⛵) could do with a bit of cleaning and a refit. It had a bar onboard. The barman seamed nice, but the staff on the clipper weren't particularly friendly.
The service is regular and safe.

Lots of Lovely Events this weekend. Mini Golf with a cafe nearby. A lovely park area with water features but artificial grass.
Now has Wild Water Swimming with pre booking. Shopping Centre is underground as are the toilets but lots of bars and restaurants near the various dock areas.

The origins behind the name 'Canary Wharf' come from the quay where vegetables and fruits from the Canary Islands were unloaded. In 1981 Michael Heseltine, Secretary of State for the Environment under Margret Thatcher, had set up the 'London Docklands Development Corporation' to regenerate the Docklands area.

What river runs through Canary Wharf?

Thames

Thames: Cutty Sark to Thames Barrier

With Canary Wharf across the river to your left and the iconic O2 Arena standing proudly on the Greenwich Peninsula, the route takes you out of central London until you reach the impressive Thames Barrier.

Nice pier specifically. Staff is usually kind and friendly however for one lady who is rude and likes to talk back. Very disrespectful.

In winter, taking the Uber Boat’s a right treat. But come summer? Blimey, it’s a proper mess. The queues are all over the shop, and it’s got everyone scratching their heads and losing their cool. Can you believe some folks stood in line for 40 minutes only to be told they’re in the wrong one? They’ve got to sort this out.
