Quiet, rural, unstaffed station with real character. Love it! Just stick your hand out, the driver waves back and stops for you. But be warned there are only 1 or 2 trains a day and none on Sunday

A quite station if you don't count the road traffic! Shippea Hill's original signal box still stands, but since automatic level crossing gates were installed a few years ago this signal box has remained empty since. None of the less, it makes for a unique trip in the Burnt Fen and for train enthusiasts alike. ( I was not very happy when the 19:27 on Saturday was cancelled though! ) Shippea Hill is an amazing station but a lot of road noise does ruin the stations lovely uniqueness and rural location on which it sits.

Shippea Hill station is on one side an useless station, with only one train a day. It belongs to the least used train station in the world.
On the other side it is an very interseting and special station. There is nothing near this station. The really only thing you can really do is explore the area on foot. There is no bus connection, so your best bet is walking back to Elly or up north. Or wait for the other train, but that train will arrive 24 hours later.

I am very upset to announce that Shippea Hill is now not the least used station. However, during my wait at Shippea Hill station for the Class 170 to take me back to Norwich, I was able to use Shippea Hill's outstanding amenities. I enjoyed a good 2-3 minutes sitting in the shelter watch cars go across the level crossing. Then, I had a nice look at the station information boards, and found out that some man has the lucky job of being Shippea Hill's station manager. Finally, the help point. I was lucky enough to go through to an Irish man who told me that my train would be 1 minute delayed. I would definitely return to Shippea Hill, but we all need to go to Teeside Airport and Barry Links first, so Shippea Hill might once again receive its prized status.

A couple of years ago, Shippea Hill train station was the least used in the UK. 12 passengers per year. No longer as it has simply become a cult station. With visits from Ian Cumming (GBBO) and Geoff & Vicky (All the Stations etc Youtubers). Both Tornado and Flying Scotsman have both been through Shippea Hill in recent years as part of route of the Cathedral's Express to Norwich.

Very little in the way of amenities, a lot of wind and the very very very occasional train...

For Rail Enthusiasts pure and simple, the antithesis of King's Cross St Pancras

The ultimate "I dunno why not" station I can think of. Pretty much this station is only good for trainspotting as the train service provided is a single morning train a day at best. Not even a shelter is provided on the Ely bound platform (mainly since no trains are scheduled to stop on that side.)

The days of the manual level crossing and it's signal box are long gone, though at least the box is in situ. A large area for parking a car is provided as well as step free access and a timetable is also available here which is good. If you fancy filming passing trains in the Anglia region and you can drive, this is an alright choice. For passengers? Forget it.

The most common sight at Shippea Hill Station is one of trains not stopping, No services stop weekdays at the station so make sure to check before setting out to use the train from the station
