The terminal has a building where you can shelter from the rain and very clean toilets. There are parking spaces. The ferry was on time and quite busy, we were lucky we didn't have a car or we wouldn't have got on. So I recommend you arrive in plenty of time for the ferry. If you miss one you will have to wait for an hour for the next one.
The journey was scenic and you can sit outside upstairs and admire the view.

“All aboard” says Lennox! Hop on the @calmacferries to get your way over to the island of Islay. The ferry to Islay from Kennacraig on Kintyre, landing at Port Ellen (2 hours 20 minutes) is the way to get across with your car, much needed to drive around for golf and touring of the island and whisky distilleries. The huge ferry has plenty of places to sit, dine and you can even bring your dog. There’s two cafes, with proper coffee, hot food, cakes and games and things to do. There’s also a kids area, which was much appreciated. The trip is long, yet comfortable. A reliable service, both legs were on time.

I used this ferry a lot while I was in Tarbert. Lovely people working on it and on time all the time....very reliable! Remember this one finishes early so make sure you know the times exactly!
