Had a refrigerated, 6 speed gear box, 18 tonne truck advertised as a “Box Truck with a 12 speed gear box”!!!!

I made the call to the office manager Ian and enquired. I explained that we was a removals company and told him we was interested in this “box truck”. At no point did he step in and tell us it would be unsuitable or that there was other issues with the truck (explained later).

The truck had no mot and I asked if they could get it through a fresh mot before we collected, to which he agreed. I paid for the truck in full from the description and pictures on the advert via email as I trusted their reviews and I had no reason to believe the truck would be advertised fraudulently.

They put the truck through the mot and we collected on a Saturday (when they made it clear they were closed, but Ian would nip in to give us the keys).

Upon collecting the truck we felt rushed as Ian had come in specially for us and we also had things to do so we collected the keys and off we went within 10 mins of arriving.

When driving the truck back to our business address, the window on the passenger side started falling down, the engine management light came on and the headlight light went out.

Yes this was literally within the first 2 hours of driving this vehicle.

We also noticed the discrepancy with the gears at this point too.

Upon parking the truck up at base and opening the back doors, we noticed a refrigerator in the back!!! I emailed Ian to say we wasn’t happy.

Alarm bells rang so the next day we took it to our mechanic to check over whilst we waited for a reply, our mechanic confirmed that underneath the truck there was wiring sticking out and other poorly maintained issues as well as it needing a window mechanism. I advised Ian that we either wanted a full refund or a replacement. They flat out refused a refund and told me if I wanted to swap the vehicle I would need to pay £500 - half of what they reckoned the mot costs.(which we know nowhere on this earth does an mot cost £1000 unless there’s issues with the vehicle which we told there wasn’t apart from the headlight).

We are now about to dump this vehicle at their premises as advised by our legal team and commence a compensation claim for mis selling.

I really wouldn’t touch this company with a barge pole if you value honesty, integrity and don’t want to be sold something by deception.we are a small family run business and work hard to maintain an excellent reputation, when dealing with the public you need to be hones, transparent and above all FAIR, some values this business need to take courses in very very quickly.
